Term 3 Sight Words

We will be using the Dolch Level 1 sight words during Term 3. I will send the .pdf file to everyone on Jupiter but in the meantime here is the checklist.

End of Term 2

Well another term is finished! I thought our class made excellent progress this term. Only one short one left before Kindergarten. Here are some highlights from our last week.

Fire Drill

Monday we held a fire drill and performed admirably. Everyone made it out much quicker than the last time.

Summative Assessment

For our last unit this term the students brought in some awesome buildings and also made some in class. Wednesday we put them all together in groups and decided what we needed and how to best organize it.

Winter Party

Yesterday was all full of fun to finish out the term. We got to see some cool talents from other students on the 10th floor, performed some house cleaning, and made yummy pancakes.

Weekly News

UOI

We spend the majority of our UOI time this week finishing the needs and wants for our city. Each team had a turn to build some new stuff, some things we needed and some we wanted. We will be using the new additions to organize the city next week.

We also wrapped up the sharing times for this calendar year.

Music and P.E.

As many of you know we will be saying goodbye to our Music and P.E. teachers at the end of the term. We will miss them but also look forward to learning new things in-line with the IB curriculum. This week we practiced identifying notes and played songs on the pianica in Music and did some gymnastics and tumbling exercises in P.E.

Washing Hands

A couple of weeks ago during Science Week we did an easy experiment with bread. We took several slices and touched them do different surfaces around class. We also bagged one using a glove and one using washed hands. We've been tracking the results and I wanted to show everyone before I throw them away. As you can see the bread that was only touched by clean hands did the best.

Buildings and Yoga

Today we started using class time to make buildings for our city. The Spurs took the afternoon to make a few different buildings. This week each team will get a day to make some buildings using scrap materials. So far so good.

We do not have any gym or park opportunities on Monday so we take time at the end of the day for Yoga or dancing. Today we did Star Wars yoga. We were able to defeat the Empire and destroy the Death Star all before wrapping the day up.

Weekly Notes

UOI

This week we really started to formulate a plan for our city, currently called Pre-Kopolis. We have decided what buildings we need, were we will be located, and even added a few fun attractions. I'm looking forward to starting construction next week.

Math

During our Math lesson we focused exclusively on addition and number sequencing. Most everyone has picked up the concepts and we will continue to work on those while slowly introducing subtraction next term.

Dice Addition

Literacy

Our Literacy times this week were spent in our normal manner. Phonics workbooks, a sight word review game, brainstorming "k" words, and we also included a sight word check yesterday to see where students stand. I was very happy with nearly all the results and after a couple more weeks of review we should be ready for the next level.

Art

Ms. Chico designed a cool hand print snowman craft the students completed yesterday. I enjoyed seeing the final results almost as much as the students enjoyed making them.

 

Music and P.E.

During our weekly specialist lessons Katsura Sensei led us in singing and pianica practice while Uehara Sensei helped us gain strength on the monkey bars.
